"Youth are the sun or storm
of tomorrow." Inspired by this prophetic thought of our dearly beloved Founder
Saint Luigi Orione, our seminarians and the Novice have organized for a great
first here in Montalban "the Orione Youth day".
The idea came from the Sunday apostolate
and Catechesis groups. Their intention, was how to help the young people they
do meeting every Sunday to discover one of our charismatic identity, the love of Don
Orione for the youth and the prominent place he gives them.
So our Seminarians have therefore
solicited the cooperation of the Friendship of Don Orione, an association of lay
people on the way to become the Orionine Lay Movement (MLO) here in Montalban. The
coordinator of this association of Orionine lay people, Ken Ramilla Formanes Bonotan,
called Kuya Ken, with the help of his collaborators and members has done “hands
and feet” to see this activity become a success. Planned at the beginning for
only some thirty or fifty young from the chapels where our youth go for the apostolate,
this activity has turned to become a real Youth Day. One hundred and thirty and
beyond, according to the official listing were the youth who have responded to
the invitation. The compound of the Saint Luigi Orione Seminary was for two day
transformed in a camp site with youth running everywhere.
The opening mass have be
celebrated on Sunday, December 29, afternoon presided by Father Anthony Eucinei
De Souza, fdp, the Novice Master and Superior of the Community. In his homely
he has invited the youth to fulfill the dream of Don Orione by becoming Suns to
shine and illuminate the world of tomorrow. After the mass, with the help of
the seminarians, the novices and the organizing committee, they have opened the
activities for the first day. The Second day was more dynamic and rich of
activities.
Under the main title was also the
subtitle inspired by the world youth day, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for
they shall see God” (Mt 5:8). So the speakers and animators have tried to
direct the youth in how to be those blessed…
The closing mass was celebrated on
December 30, 2015, Monday afternoon, presided by Father Stan Achi, fdp, Rector
of the Seminary. He has also invited the youth, at the end of this 1st
Orione Youth Day to become missionaries of what they have experienced as joy, as
togetherness and as love to other young people. By this testimony they will able
to make possible a second edition of the Orione Youth Day.
The host chapel for the planning
and coordination of this 2nd Edition has already been chosen, it
will be the Santo Nino Chapel of Wawa, and this 2nd Edition is intended
for summer 2016.
With St Luigi Orione, let’s serve and save the
youth, suns or storms of the future.
