The
radiance of the bread of life coming from the providential love of God is a
theme worthy of an endless celebration. The daily sustenance we received is
what we admire and long for- but maybe it is not yet enough.
In
honor to St. Luigi Orione in every 16th of the month, the community
here in Montalban celebrated the ORIONIGHT taking the theme, “Give us this day
our daily bread”. The Eucharistic celebration was officiated by our Vicar
General, Fr. Oreste Ferrari, together with Fr. Stefan and Fr. Stan. Depicting
the good nutrition, we need the nutrients of Christ in all aspects of our life.
We held the celebration in connection to the Nutrition Month happened every
July here in the Philippines. The colorful activities made us feel really the theme of the event. We exhibited the fluorescent colors along the night in our oil pastel posters and thoughtful slogans. After the mass, the agape feast happened in the seminary refectory filled our body with so much energy for the next activities.
In
our cultural night, Fr. Stefan welcomed us with a strong message in Tagalog. “Hindi lamang sa tinapay nabubuhay ang tao
kundi sa Salita ng Diyos.” He further supported by reflecting into it, and
encouraging us to be faithful in the teachings of the Gospel. The showcase of
talents was from the three dormitories, Fr. Luigi Piccoli Dorm, Fr. Angelo Falardi
Dorm and St. Lorenzo Ruiz Dorm. In a theatrical manner, the seminarians
presented in many different genres. Some performed a nice skit about the
nutrition month. The Fr. Angelo Falardi serenaded a beautiful voicing of
traditional song “Bahay Kubo- Native Hut”,
that encapsulated all kinds of vegetables. The last performer entertained
us with a joyful dance number. In the middle of the culmination, Fr. Oreste gave
an inspirational message. He told a story about an Italian priest who happened
to visit Philippines. Upon the visit, he heard a prayer, Bigyan mo kami ng aming kakanin sa araw-araw”, which means if we
translate it literally, “Give us this day
our daily RICE”, that in tagalog, KANIN
means rice. When he came back, he reflected that Filipinos cannot afford to buy
bread for their daily sustenance, and that upon knowing they asked God to give
rice instead of bread. This recalls the cultural dimension of living. After Fr.
Oreste’s speech, we have a vegetable eating contest happened per batch. They
eat lots of ampalaya, carrots and other fresh vegetables.
In
the latter part of our event, Fr. Stan in his eye-catching blue garment gave a
thanksgiving message. He brought with him along the event an umbrella. Taking
the umbrella, he explained that in order to harvest wheat and rice, people
needs a rain. Indeed, that is a clear manifestation of the God of Harvest who
always interfere out of His love for us humans being. Later on, the simple
culmination of nutrition month gave us the conviction of living our life worthily.
Not because God is with us to assist in all our transgressions, but because of
the wondrous blessings from God in a good food we take each day.
