Valentine Ball: Caritas Christi Urget Nos

The story of love transpired again in Montalban community. The 13th of February became the most romantic event of the seminary together with the invited benefactors and friends. In connection to the monthly commemoration for St. Luigi Orione, our Orionight was aligned to the Pre- Valentine Ball with the theme, ”The Love of Christ urges us on…” St. Valentine introduced the worldly understanding of heart’s day as a common celebration of lovers. In order not to remain untouchable in a semi- monastic life, we also shared in the festivity of love by making the night sparked by singing and dancing.

The Eucharistic Celebration, held at St. Luigi Orione Seminary Chapel, 6:00 in the evening viewing the little shadow of sunset. In the Holy Mass, we commemorated the Caritas Christi as we recently entered into a 40-days of contemplations and prayer- the Lenten season. Fr. Anthony, the Local Superior, presided the mass together with Fr. Stefan, the Community Vicar and Fr. Stan, Rector of the Seminary who solemnized the celebration.

Like in the first-ever Valentine Celebration in the Roman Festival of Lupercalia, the front garden of seminary main house remained to be as a red sweet pea flowers- the seminarians and visitors- who sprinkled along the venue of the said ball. Fr. Stan led the seminarians in his eye-catching rose-like long sleeve, wearing his best smile at all time. Bro. Augustus, a newly-professed brother displayed his Caribbean red polo with Bro. Carl who also in his red shirt. After reading the letter of St. Paul about the reality of love and who opened formally the cultural night, the visitors seemed to be so relaxed waiting for the suspense of the seminarians. The program started at around 7:47pm with delicate love songs and drama. The Pious Lovers of the Poor, our first year in formation, delivered an interpretative dance empowering the love of the Divine, who is the Crucified Christ. Our talented second year, the Sons of Charity, indulged the celebration with a splendid musical play. They delivered variety of songs from classic to contemporary genres. After the Orionine Youth Movement showcased the animations, the promising third year conquered the ground in their play. While the narrator gave life to the play spontaneously, the Mariae Militare-  3rd Year Class- flexibly conveyed what the narration will say. It was the most exciting part of the scene where a seminarian fell in love with a girl but it ended up with an ordination, setting aside the ever so sweet dart of cupid who obviously will end up in another kind of calling. The night was so amazing, we don’t have a valentine date than the mothers who’ve been the most lovable when we have our apostolates.
The Catholic teachings introduced love as the greatest among all the virtues. Indeed, the love of Christ which He first manifested suffices the quest of life and endures all things. For us, one thing is certain- to perform the humble works of St. Luigi Orione with a great enthusiasm, spreading the LOVE to the captives and the ordinary people. May Christ impels us to do all things with a full pledge of dedication, to love and to be bearers of love.
